Where is my Discover Card accepted outside of the U.S.?

Cards are currently accepted in Canada, Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and China. You can use your card everywhere Discover Network Cards are accepted. If a decal displaying the Discover Network acceptance mark is not visible, you may still present your card for payment if the merchant accepts cards. Some merchants (primarily hotels) don't always display acceptance decals.

How do I contact the card service center when traveling outside of the U.S.?

We are open 24 hours, 7 days a week. While outside of the U.S., you can reach us by dialing 001, followed by the toll number of 801-902-3100. Please be sure to retain this number with your travel documents.

When I make a purchase in a foreign currency using my card, how will it appear on my statement?

When your purchase is conducted in a foreign currency, there will be a two-line description of the card transaction on your statement:

Line 1 includes:

Name and location of the merchant
Amount of transaction in U.S. dollars

Line 2 includes:

The amount of the transaction in the foreign currency
The rate of exchange used to convert the card sale into U.S. Dollars

The exchange rate is the published rate on the processing date, which is the date the transaction was received by Discover Card.

What should I do if my card is lost or stolen while traveling abroad?

If your card is lost or stolen while traveling outside of the U.S., immediately contact the Customer Service Center in the U.S. by dialing 001, followed by the toll number of 801-902-3100. They will assist you in replacing your lost or stolen card.

Do I need a PIN (Personal Identification Number) to obtain a cash advance using my card? How do I obtain a PIN?

To obtain a cash advance at an ATM using your card, a PIN is required. A PIN is not required for cash advances that are obtained in person at a branch of a financial institution. If you do not have a PIN, please contact Customer Service at 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683) prior to your trip to obtain one. To expedite this process, please call from your home phone number when requesting your PIN.

Currently, there are no cash access locations or ATM access in this region.

Where can I use my card in China?

Currently, you can use your card anywhere you see the Discover Network acceptance mark or the China Union Pay acceptance mark throughout mainland China.

If decals displaying the Discover Network acceptance mark or the China Union Pay acceptance mark are not visible, you may still present your card for payment if the Merchant accepts cards. Some merchants (primarily hotels) don't always display acceptance decals

Discover Network Cards have been accepted in mainland China since November of 2006. In spite of extensive merchant training and mass distribution of signage, some merchants may still be unfamiliar with the Discover brand.

To aid you in the use of your Discover Card throughout mainland China, click here to download a handy, wallet-sized instruction card. This card will direct you to locations where the card is accepted, and provide card processing directions for the merchant (in both English and Chinese). If the merchant seems unfamiliar with your card, simply hand the merchant the instruction card to facilitate the transaction.

Cash advances using your card are available at select ATMs located throughout China. A PIN is required to obtain a cash advance from an ATM. Be sure to obtain your PIN prior to your departure by calling Customer Service at 1-800-DISCOVER (1-800-347-2683). To expedite this process, please call from your home phone number when requesting your PIN.
